Martha Jo Harang
Martha Jo Harang, 87, of Denham Springs, formerly of Baton Rouge, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009. Martha was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, knitting, reading and taking care of her family and her cats. She is survived by her two stepdaughters, Henri Lee Chenevert and husband Houston, of Central, and Ann Haney and husband Steve, of Morgan City, Ala.; grandchildren, Carey Chenevert, of Lafayette, Danielle DeWald, of Denham Springs, Lee Ann Glass and husband Troy, of Union Grove, Ala., Kyle Haney and wife Alisha, and Kayla Harper and husband Christopher, all of Arab, Ala.; 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Henry Harang, who was of Denham Springs; mother, Edith Hickerson, father and stepmother, Allen and Inez Hickerson, who were all of Nashville, Ark.; and grandson, Clint Chenevert, who was of Bude, Miss. Graveside service will be held at the Young Family Cemetery, Zachary, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 26. Memorial donations may be made to the Young Family Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
Zemina McBurney Munson
Zemina McBurney Munson, 89, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Baton Rouge on Aug. 17, 1919, Mrs. Munson moved to Zachary in 1947 with her husband, Charles L. Munson Jr. The Munsons were owners of Zachary's first service station, Charley Mc's Esso Center. Mrs. Munson will be warmly remembered for her joyous smile, her positive attitude and for her Christian witness. A faithful member of Plains Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Munson was also a joyful choir member for more than 40 years. She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Munson Williamson and husband Warren L. Williamson, Beaufort, S.C.; a son, Charles McBurney Munson, St. Francisville; a sister, Marguerite McBurney Van de Mark and husband Kenneth, Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Raplee Young McBurney and wife Martha Crews McBurney, Alexandria; a nephew, Raplee C. McBurney and wife Charlotte, Jacksons Gap, Ala.; four grandchildren, Michael Warren Williamson and wife Stacie, Raleigh, N.C., Elizabeth Adele Williamson, Reston, Va., Scott Anthony Munson, Cape Cod, Mass., and Vicki Zemina Munson Whetstone and husband Russell, Zachary; and three great grandchildren, Whitman, Miller and Merritt Williamson, all of Raleigh. Mrs. Munson was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Charley Munson; and her parents, Maude Zemina Young McBurney and Raplee Watson McBurney. A graveside service will be held at the Young Family Cemetery, Zachary, on Friday, Jan. 9, at noon. Visitation will be in the parlor of the Plains Presbyterian Church, Zachary, from 2 p.m. until a memorial service at 4 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Richard D. Bailey, the Rev. A. Campbell Silman and the Rev. Dr. Parker T. Williamson. Pallbearers will be three of Mrs. Munson's grandchildren, Michael, Elizabeth and Vicki; family members, Rap McBurney and Russell Whetstone; and friends, Wayne Robinson Charles Synder and Ben Toler. Honorary pallbearers are the elders and deacons of Plains Presbyterian Church. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to Dr. Kemp Amacker and his staff for many years of loving care and dedicated medical service, to Dr. Giles Fort for his compassionate care and to the team at St. Joseph Hospice for their exceptional, comforting care. Lejeune Mills died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Baton Rouge. She was 78, a resident of Zachary and a native of Jackson. Visiting at Plains Presbyterian Church, Zachary, on Saturday, July 4, from 8 a.m. until service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Bob Wojohn, the Rev. Richard Bailey and the Rev. Campbell Sillman. Interment will be in the Young Family Cemetery, Zachary. Survived by her husband of 57 years, Gilbert Collins Mills Sr.; daughter, Beryl Mills Beier and husband Daniel; son, Gilbert Collins Mills Jr. and wife Patricia; sister, Anne Turpin Fitzsimmons; seven grandchildren, Ty Halmark, Brooke Mills Masoner, Michael Barry Croft, Ashley Croft Thibodeaux, Laura Anne Beier, Daniel Beier Jr. and Elise Beier; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Ovide Lejeune Turpin and Ann Garnet Howell; daughter, Ann Mills Croft; and son-in-law, Barry Croft. Pallbearers will be Daniel Beier, Michael Croft, Daniel Beier Jr., Albert Mills III, Wilmer Mills, Shannon Mills, David Mills II, Jack Burk, Bob Mills, Scott Masoner, Will Burk, Evan Burk, T. Peter Breslin and Thomas P. Breslin III. She was a graduate of Isidore Newman School, New Orleans, and attended LSU, where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She was a member of Plains Presbyterian Church, where she actively served in numerous church ministries. She was a member of Town & Country Book Club and was active in bridge and tennis groups.
